Bubble

Gaga has a bubble dress and a bubble piano, I will be discussing both of them. The Bubble dress is in and a creation of The Haus of Gaga. The dress was created by the haus around the time the song Paparazzi was released. Gaga has worn this outfit many times during the Fame Tour. The bubbles on the dress aren’t real bubbles, they are made of plastic. She made a smaller version of the dress that is a vest. The vest is easier to get out of since Gaga makes many outfit changes during her performances. The bubble dress was on SNL before during a skit with Andy Samberg.  The plot line for the skit  is Samberg realizing that he is wearing the same Bubble Dress (for the SNL after-party) as Gaga, leading to an uncomfortable exchange. At the end of the skit, they find that Lorne Michaels has also encountered the same problem, wearing a tie with bubble attachments. A replica was made for an episode of Glee for the character Tina.

The bubble piano was inspired by the bubble dress but made by a different designer. It is filled with plastic bubbles and lights up. The outfit and piano is quite amazing. When it first debuted it was on most popular magazines. She modeled with the dress for over fifteen photo shoots. The dress and piano is so unique, I doubt that anyone else would want a bubble or piano.

Disco Stick

The Disco Stick is one of the first creations of the Haus of Gaga in 2008. It’s first appearance was at clubs. The term “Disco Stick”

was used in a catch phrase in a bar. Gaga explains it as, “I was in a bar in New York and I said to this guy I was hitting on ‘I wanna take a ride on your disco stick’ and he just started laughing.” In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine Gaga explained the meaning and the inspiration for the song “LoveGame“. One line that they asked about was “Let’s have some fun this beat is sick / I wanna take a ride on your disco stick.” Gaga’s answer to the question was,  “It’s another of my very thoughtful metaphors for a cock. I was at a nightclub, and I had quite a sexual crush on somebody, and I said to them, ‘I wanna ride on your disco stick’. The next day, I was in the studio, and I wrote the song in about four minutes. When I play the song live, I have an actual stick — it looks like a giant rock-candy pleasuring tool — that lights up.

Gaga actually made her own disco stick with Dada (I have talked about Dada or Mathew in an earlier post). On the top is crushed acrylic plastic formed into a dome like shape. The inside of it consists of 18 small LEDs which let off the bright blue-ish white-ish light. inside the chrome pole are batteries, which can be accessed by unscrewing the bottom part of the disco stick. To turn the light on, there is a small back button. It then has an thick long black tube to protect it, which has crushed frozen acrylic at the top. Since the creation of the Disco Stick, Lady Gaga has used when performing LoveGame. The Disco Stick was seen in The Fame Ball tour in the songs: Just Dance, LoveGame and occasionally Beautiful, Dirty Rich. In The Monster Ball it’s only used during LoveGame. But it was used as a video camera in the new version of The Monster Ball where Gaga is doing a skit with fans.

In a skit on Saturday Night Live, Gaga and Madonna get into a staged cat-fight, over who is more popular and attractive. During the struggle, Madonna yells: “What the hell is a Disco Stick?“, referencing the controversy over the item’s concept.

Angler Fish

The angler fish or fame monster is a prop used during the song Paparazzi in the ‘Monster Ball Tour’. When the song begins the Angler Fish appears, It’s eyes glows, the angler, and it’s teeth as shown to the picture to the right. As the song continues the song bites down and takes off Lady Gaga’s skirt to reveal a leotard. Gaga then puts her Pyro-bra or fire bra. It’s a remote control spark shooter bra. I will review that outfit in a later post.  Back to the fame monster, Gaga tells her fans that she can’t kill her fans herself. Gaga says that the whole story behind the fame monster is that when she was younger, the fish was one of her biggest fears. She says that it’s really great defeating her fear on every night of her show. The fame monster is puppetered by her dancers, with 2-3 dancers operating each tentacle. The fame monster represent fame and gets killed by paparazzi.
